It's a Fluke!
I just got my stand alone Fluke 289. I think I got a good deal from Gamazone. Right now Gamazone is offering $104.98 coupon deal or discount, plus free(no charge) calibration from Transcat. I could not pass this deal. I also have the tank, pardon me, the Fluke 28II, both meters are top notch, of course, the 289 is the best. I use these meters in my personal lab, I design things like a Home Thermostat, Garage Door Opener, of course this devices are controlled by the iPhone, etc. This meter was designed years ago, about 10+ years I think. So is an old school meter. Fluke just keeps updating it a bit. Here is the good part about my meter, it says was manufactured December 2018 here in the USA. This meter is fresh out of the oven, when I got it was still smoking. It was calibrated January 29, 2019 by Transcat. It cannot get any better than this. Here is an odd detail: The firmware says is version 1.41, really? I don’t think Fluke has that firmware version out yet. I could be wrong.I have observed a couple odd issues, I am not sure if these are really issues or this is the way the meter is, somehow that does not make any sense to me. Here is the first one:The backlight display has some weird setup:If I press:1 – the backlight display goes High2 – the backlight display goes Low3 – it turn OFF the backlight displayPressing 1 should be LOW, pressing 2 should be high, and 3 OFF. I believe this is what the manual says. If we are in the saving battery deal, it got be this way.The other issue, or could be not an issue. I need to contact Fluke, may be I don’t know the meter too well yet.Anyway, in Setup, Display, Format, Number Format, it shows 0.000, if I press Edit, does not do anything, does not change anything.UPDATE 04/17/19I contacted Fluke about the firmware version, they say the 1.41 is the latest and greatest, Fluke will update the web site soon. The number format "issue" there is no issue here, it just changes from dot to comma and vice versa, just look closely. The High/Low(it should Low then High) brightness Fluke says will investigate that.
