Excellent Reciprocating Pruning Saw Blades. Made in USA, but Global Materials
What am I reviewing?(3) Pack of Craftsman (9”) 5/6 TPI Bi-Metal Pruning Reciprocating Saw BladesHow were these presented? In a typical blister packThoughts?I am pleased with the blades for several reasons. They fit my Craftsman reciprocating saw perfectly; they are made in the USA [yes, yes, of global materials]; they are competitively priced, and their performance is excellent – no smoking blades, as these cut.Are they sharp?Ouch, yes, they sure are.How do they cut?Admirably. Why?TPI makes a difference.TPI?TPI stands for Teeth Per Inch on a saw blade, which indicates the number of teeth along a one-inch section of the blade. The TPI determines how fine or coarse the cut will be.For instance. For instance, a lower TPI, such as 5-6, suggests a more brutal, but cut will take place and this rating is bear for cutting thicker or softer materials, like pruning trees and other wood. If I wanted a finer cut, I would pick something else, such as 14-32 TPI, which creates a finer cut.Wish list?Craftsman has supplied, in the past, a roll-out pouch, with slots, for blade storage.Different? These are different from past Craftsman purchases, where the blades were all painted all white – and made in Switzerland.Quality and durability?I think excellent. These stay sharp while cutting the materials they were intended for.Criticisms?I have no significant criticism.Length?(9”), allows me the reach and control I am comfortable with. Are these perfect? No, but hard to find where they are not.Rating?I think these five (5) stars.I hope my thoughts added information.

The right tooth design for green wood
We don't have enough trees to justify a small chain saw, so I've always used my Sawzall with a 4-6 tooth blade in it (plain old skip tooth style) and recently needed to take a 6 inch branch off a dying Camellia, so I ordered these to try out. Before I started cutting, I was a bit disappointed in comparing them with the typical blades I use, specifically looking at the sharpness of the teeth—these Craftsman blades felt dull to me. (But in doing this I noticed that they are designed in such a way as to cut in both directions. Basically a miniature version of the teeth used on those large two handed saws of yore. They cut well, and after cutting what I needed to cut (maybe 15 minutes of active cutting) the one I used doesn't feel that much duller than a fresh blade—so my sense is they are fairly long lasting.
