Easy on easy off
Did a simple oil change with these tools. I can tell a difference with the ratchet and socket sets. Easy to take off the sockets grab the nuts and bolts and coincidentally simple to put back on Great buy.

Craftsman Quality, Modern Look: Style Meets Substance
TL;DR:This Craftsman Overdrive set is a solid choice. The gunmetal finish looks great and hides grime. The ratchet is smooth, and sockets are well-made with easy-to-read markings. It’s a great blend of quality and value, perfect for everyday use. Just wish it had more pieces, but you can’t have everything!Full Review:Growing up, Craftsman was “the” brand. My dad had various sets, and I’m pretty sure I helped contribute to its slow disappearance. Let’s just say some tools saw uses they weren’t designed for, and some didn’t make it back and are AWAL to this day. But my dad was a cool dude – When he would find the broken ones, we’d take them to Sears, and they’d swap them for new ones, no questions asked. No need to dig through paperwork or find a receipt.My stepfather, on the other hand, was a pro, a heavy diesel mechanic. He worked on heavy equipment like the Cat 994 wheel loader, or the Cat 793 250-ton haul truck, and had a tool collection that was downright intimidating. Think Snap-On, Proto, Mac, the works. But even “he” had a Craftsman set that he reached for regularly, especially when he wasn’t donned in his coveralls in full mechanic mode.These are but a few of the things that solidified Craftsman as the tool of choice in my mind: always reliable, affordable, and always there when you needed it.That brings me to this Craftsman Overdrive 49-Piece Gunmetal Chrome Mechanics Tool Set. It lives up to that legacy. The tools are well-organized in the case, with each piece snapping securely into its place. No more opening the case to a jumbled mess.The 3/8″ drive ratchet is particularly impressive. It’s smooth, with distinct positive clicks as the pawl engages with the 180-tooth ratchet wheel. The directional switch feels solid, and the socket release button works without a hitch. The fine teeth on the ratchet make it ideal when working in tight engine compartments or under a dashboard where space is at a premium. It is also a bit longer than your typical 3/8″ drive ratchet giving you more leverage to break free those stubborn bolts that haven’t moved in decades.The sockets themselves are clearly marked with the sizes, and they’re using Craftsman’s “Tight Torque” technology to help prevent damage to the bolt/nut. The metric sockets also have a different texture marking, making it easy to quickly distinguish them from SAE, especially when you’re grabbing for them in a hurry.Honestly, when I ordered the “gunmetal chrome” finish, I wasn’t sure how I’d like it. Chrome is always looks cool, right? But now that I’ve used it, I’m sold. In the shop, where everything tends to end up on the concrete floor, the darker finish helps the tools stand out. Plus, it just “looks” good; it’s less flashy but still professional, and the darker color hides grease and grime better.If I could change one thing, I’d probably ask for more tools in the set—but then again, I also wish my paychecks had more money in them. I always feel that I need more tools.But for what it is – a quality, affordable mechanics toolset – it hits the mark. If you’re looking for a solid set of tools that won’t break the bank, the Craftsman Overdrive is worth a look.
