Improved Packing, no broken mountings on the Rail
I had previously ordered the 1/2 inch drive SAE Deep Well 6-pt set and as others here reported they broke off the plastic cubes attaching to the Mounting Rail. Of course that set was much heaver than this 3/8 inch drive set. Because there was no packing between the sockets, those heavy 1/2 inch drive sockets could not survive slight impacts during shipping and broke the majority of the plastic mounting cubes that held them to the Magnetic Socket Rail. That was not the case with this set. It appeared complaints about breakage were heard and responded to. This set while still attached to the Mounting Rail, had a double row of cardboard separating the two rows of sockets in the middle. In addition, there was another perimeter of Cardboard around both rows of sockets, thereby reducing any bending on those plastic mounting cubes, and reducing the chance of the weight of the sockets breaking off the mounting cubes from the mounting rail. While not tried these sockets yet, simply assuming they are the same quality as that 1/2 inch drive set I previously purchased here. So while not used 1/2 inch drive set much, and not tested this set yet, I still gave the Durability maximum stars because they look quality, unlike earlier Craftsman Sets that were no longer made in the United States and has chrome flaking of those.I had owned and/or used Craftsman Tools since the 1960s and loved the quality and warranty until they started making them in other countries. I am hoping this set will last and hold up better than the later sets I purchased with chrome flaking off, but only time will tell. Therefore, not owned long enough to accurately attest to the durability until had many years and see how they look then.So for now this is my first impression without the time to prove if they are as good as they look. The only negative thing may be the mounting rails, since these have a bad reputation for their plastic mounting cubes breaking so easy. Most my Craftsman Sockets are on ABN Aluminum Socket Rails which hold up better than most earlier models I purchased from other companies. I had to put my 1/2 drive set on an ABN Aluminum Socket rail I already had from earlier sets I purchased, simply because so many of the plastic mounting cubes attaching those to that Magnetic Rail was broken when arrived. Possible I may move this 3/8 drive set to an ABN Aluminum Socket Rail later, but for now leaving on the Magnetic Socket Rail that came with this set.
