This tool let’s you pull the blade out and then holds it there. Only retracts when you allow it too.

The magnet is very helpful and the tape is easy to read. My only problem is that the tape often has trouble retracting the last three inches. Therefore I have to pull it out and try to get it to go back in a few times.
